Monique Kim connects with Rodney Jerkins
The
Story
In Dec of 2009 not too long after
Blazetrak launched, Monique Kim of New Jersey submitted a song to be reviewed
by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins.Monique received a positive video response
back from Darkchild that contained a wealth of advice on how to further her
career.After receiving her video
response and catching his attention, Monique began to communicate with
Darkchild via Twitter.She created a
mashup entitled “A Decade
of Debauchery” a mashup
of 28 guilty pleasures hits from the 00s”.Monique sent
the video to Darkchild via Twitter and he loved it.He asked Monique to create a mashup of his 15
biggest hits for his 15th year anniversary in the industry.Monique created an awesome mashup for
Darkchild (See Below):
On Jan 25th Monique Kim flew to LA
per Darkchild’s request
to join him at his studio. She is now working to help Darkchild on a host of things dealing with social media marketing.
When interviewed about the
Blazetrak experience, Monique replied:
“Some
people are reluctant to submit because of the price tag, but they have to
realize that this is a chance of a lifetime. Never before could Jane Doe from a
small town in Iowa get heard by a renowned music executive. I'm just a normal girl
from New Jersey who has a dream. For my music to get heard by one of the best
in the business AND to get his feedback is absolutely invaluable.”
“Sometimes people think that when
you submit on Blazetrak that all you get is feedback…the thing is that talented people
like Darkchild love to surround themselves with other talented people.Although, I was not what he was looking for
as an artist – I was
able to start a relationship with him through Blazetrak and now I am in
LA.I am having the time of my life
working with Darkchild as well as meeting some of the most amazing people in
the entertainment industry. I am on cloud nine.”
About Monique Kim
Monique Kim, 22, has been surrounded
by music her entire life. When she was a little girl, Monique would accompany her
mother, a Juilliard graduate and concert pianist, to church choir rehearsals.
It was there that Monique discovered her love for music. However, the New
Jersey native didn't always have her mind set on a music career. Monique had
aspirations of competing in Tae Kwon Do in the 2012 Olympics, but a knee injury
put an end to that dream in 2005. Having more time to herself, Monique
rediscovered her love for music. After a year of chasing her new dream, Monique
won in the rap category of Kollaboration NY, a prestigious Korean American
talent show, and was featured in the HarperCollins book 100 Young Americans by
Emmy award winning director Michael Franzini. Today, Monique, a recent Columbia
University graduate, is teaching golf and working as a dental lab technician.
She is also writing songs with platinum award winning music producer Chiba
Antoine to get placed in TV and movies. The singer/songwriter/rapper/dancer
hopes to break down the color barrier and become the first successful Asian
American artist in the U.S.
